About the Author(s)

John Daintith, Ph.D., worked as a research chemist at the University of London and as a research assistant at Oxford University. His main interests are chemical kinetics and spectroscopy. He has written many articles and compiled and edited a number of reference books, including The Facts On File Dictionary of Biochemistry, The Facts On File Dictionary of Inorganic Chemistry, The Facts On File Dictionary of Organic Chemistry, and the Oxford Dictionary of Science.

Edmund Wright, Ph.D., is a historian, reference book editor, and IT consultant who has worked with computers for more than 25 years. He was database manager and software developer for Encarta Webster’s Dictionary of the English Language, Macmillan English Dictionary, and Business: The Ultimate Resource.
